A good website attracts people and compels them to stay on their but what about Search Engines? What are the things that attract Search Engines to come and stay on a website? When a bot from Search Engine comes to your website, the first thing it looks for is a sitemap. A sitemap is like a virtual map for your virtual property that shows a bot the things that are on a website and points it in the direction where they are located. Sitemaps thus form a very important part of a website. A sitemap is no rocket science, in fact it is one of the most basic and easiest steps of website building. And like always, we at Iconosites make sure that things get even simpler for our customers and readers. The following tutorial will enable you to create a Sitemap for you using www.SlickPlan.com

4) After verifying your email, log-in into your account on SLickPlan.com and click the big grey button that reads “CREATE A NEW SITEMAP”=

Page Rank is the measure of your website or more specifically the measure of a web page’s worth in the eyes of the Google. It depends on several factors, backlinks being the biggest of them. If your business website has a good social presence on the internet, Google considers your website as a trustable source and gives you a better page-rank above the other free websites or webpages on internet. There are many myths and facts about page-rank or more popularly known as PR that you can find on Google. This tutorial will help you to add a PageRank checker to the footer of your iconosites website.

1) We will be using MyPageRank.net for this purpose. Click here to go to the PR Checker tool.

2) In the text box, enter the URL of the website on which you want to add the tool and then press the ‘Check PR’ button.

3) This will show you several styles to display the PR. Select the style that you like and would like to use on your Iconosites website.

People hate slow websites and most of the time reason behind slow websites are big images (not bigger in dimensions but bigger in size). This not only leads to running customers but also poor search engine rankings which makes your free website almost invisible to new buyers. This tutorial will help you get rid of this problem when you build a website with our website builder by reducing the size of the image but still not compromising with the quality. We will use a very simple website named: JpegReducer.com for this purpose.

1) Head over to the website and scroll down to the ‘Browse’ button within a green box. Press the Button to open the browser select the image.

2) Select the image and press ‘Open’

3) Click the ‘Reduce It’ button to proceed to the next step. This will trigger the script on the webpage and reduce the image size while you sit and have some snacks.

4) After the size of the image has been reduced, you will be shown the following screen.

Click on ‘See converted images’ to view the reduced size images.

5) The next page shows you several images with different size and quality. Select the one you need. Make sure you do not compromise too much with the quality as it will ruin the look and feel of your site.

6) Follow the screenshot below to save the image.

and then

Finally you have learned how to create a website with the images you need and you can use it the way you want. This is a great addition to use in combination with our professional web page maker, as it will allow you to take large images and res them down so that your web pages look good and load snappily.

A Logo is the identity of your business. Including one when creating a website not only defines the personality of your company and its employees but also makes your company step above the competition. The Logo, nowadays is used on websites also and our website builder also allows you to place your logo in the header. But what if your logo size is large and makes your page look ugly instead of professional? This tutorial will help you give a perfect size to your logo (or any other image for that matter) and impress your visitors.

My site has a logo that suits my business well and I am happy to have it on my Icono free website. But the large size of the image makes the whole site very ugly and instead of impressing the people, it ruins the image of my business.

We will solve this problem by using Picresize.com

1) Go to Picresize.com

2) Press the ‘Browse’ button to open up a file browser and select the file.

3) Go through the following screenshot if you need help with selecting your logo image.

4) Now press the big yellow button to proceed to next step.

5) Scroll down to 2nd option which will allow you to resize your image (check screenshot). Select any existing preset or enter custom dimensions if you know how much place you have on your header. I made my logo 50% smaller in size.

6) Click the option with a floppy icon to ‘Save the image to disc’.

7) Log-in into your Iconosites website maker account. Check the left sidebar for ‘Logo/header/footer’ section. Click it!

8) Scroll down to the image uploader. Press the ‘Add Files’ button to select an image. Now press ‘Upload’ to start uploading.

9) Your new logo will be uploaded within a second and shown to you. Click on ‘Activate Logo’ within the professional website creator to use the new logo on your website.

And that is it! We are done and our website has been updated with the resized logo.

This is how my Icono website looks after placing a re-sized logo.

If you are looking for a way to enable people to chat on your business website or simply post a message for you or other people, Chatwing is not only a simple but a very beautiful tool that allows you to do this. In this tutorial we will teach you how to create a website with free chat rooms, using Chatwing. In minutes you can have full-blown discussions happening on your free web site.

1) First, we will need a Chatwing account to create the widget for our small business website. Click on the big purple button that says “Get Chatwing”. This will open up a sign-up form. Sign up for a free account for your website.

2) The next screen shows you three options: Embedded, Pop-Out and Group Chat URL. Since we are Embedding a chatbox in a website, we will use the 1st option – Embedded.

3) The next screen allows you to customize the chatbox widget for your website design. It allows you to change the size of the chatbox as you need. It even allows you to change the color of the chatbox to blend it seamlessly within your website. After you are done with the customization press the ‘GET HTML CODE’ button to get the embed code.

4) Left click and select the complete code on the left side of the screen being displayed. Then right click and press copy to copy the code.

5) Now login into your Iconosites website maker admin area and start editing the page in which you want to embed the chatbox.

Vimeo is one of the best video sharing and video streaming website on the internet today. Its popularity can be measured from the fact that most of the music labels now rely on Vimeo for streaming their music online. The videos have an extremely high steaming quality, which means that your videos will just look better in terms of resolution and clarity when viewed on your website. For small business owners who care about maintaining a professional and credible website design, Vimeo is definitely the way you should go.

In this tutorial we will learn how to create a website with videos from Vimeo. We’ll show you the step-by-step process of doing this using our online website maker.

1) Go to Vimeo.com and browse to the video you want to add on your free website.

2) Now bring your mouse cursor over the video and watch out for 3 options that appear on the upper right side of the video. Click the third option which says “Share”.

3) Clicking the Share Button, shows up a new screen. On the right side, we have the embed code. Also you are given an option to customize the embed features according to your requirement (check screenshot). If you want to skip the customization part, you may skip the next step of the tutorial and go to Step 5 straight away.

4) The video embed code can be customized as per your requirement. There are a host of options that you can change to change the look and feel of the video player.
